Request a free Fort Collins DUI case review

Seven questions, about a minute. Starts with your court date.

Step 1 of 7
Do you have a court date?

If your request is passed to an attorney, this tells them how fast to move.

When were you arrested?

License-suspension deadlines run from the date you were given the suspension notice, not from your court date.

Is this your first DUI or DWI?

Prior offenses change the charge level, the minimum penalties, and often the strategy.

Did you refuse a breath or blood test?

Refusal triggers a separate administrative case against your license.

How will you pay for legal fees?

Private defense attorneys are paid by the client. If your request is passed to an attorney, this tells them up front how you expect to pay.

Briefly describe what happened

A few sentences is plenty. Useful details: where you were stopped, why the officer said they stopped you, what tests you were asked to do, and anything that felt wrong about the stop.

How can you be reached?

This is the only step that asks for personal information.

By clicking “Send My Request,” I provide my ESIGN signature and express written consent for duistatelaws.com and up to three attorneys to contact me at the number provided, including through automated technology, SMS/MMS, and prerecorded or artificial voice messages. Larimer County and Jackson County form Colorado’s Eighth Judicial District, with courts in Fort Collins, Loveland and Walden. In Larimer County, five county judges hear county court cases, three at the Larimer County Justice Center in Fort Collins and two in the Loveland Police and Courts Building, according to the district’s FY2026 overview; a misdemeanor DUI is a county court case.

The district has run a DUI court since July 2010. This page covers that court, the probation process that follows a sentence, and the buildings. The penalty ladder is on the Colorado page.

Two cases, two clocks: the criminal track and the license track after an arrest A branching timeline. An arrest at the top splits into two lanes. The left lane, the criminal case, runs arrest and booking, charge filed, first court setting, pretrial settings, then trial, plea or dismissal, on a court docket measured in weeks to months with no filing deadline against the driver. The right lane, the license case, runs from the notice on day 0 to a short written deadline to demand a hearing, and then forks: a request filed in time gets a hearing, and state law decides whether the suspension waits for it, while nothing filed means the suspension starts automatically with no hearing. The DMV clock, and the step after sentencing

The license. Colorado gives 7 days from the notice to ask the DMV for a hearing, separate from the court case.

Probation. The Eighth Judicial District Probation Department says it supervises misdemeanor and felony offenders the court orders to take part, and that its services include presentence investigations, specialized and regular adult supervision, Alcohol & Drug Driving Safety, and drug courts. Reporting in person is mandatory after sentencing: anyone just ordered probation or a presentence investigation in court must report in person to the 1600 Prospect Park Way office in Fort Collins. The offices are open weekdays 8am to 5pm, and the Loveland office closes for lunch.

The department lists supervisors by unit, among them one for the intake unit and alcohol evaluations and one for presentence investigations and the DUI court. It also describes a Restorative Justice Committee that has set up options for probation officers and clients to address accountability, impact and repair.

The DUI Recovery Court

The Colorado Judicial Branch describes the Eighth Judicial District’s DUI Recovery Court as serving adults convicted of felony DUI whose repeat impaired-driving behavior can be traced to a clinical substance use disorder. Participants receive comprehensive treatment while continuing to live and work in the community, and are held accountable through a sentence that combines an initial term of work release, intensive probation supervision, and court reviews every two weeks or monthly.

The court began operating in July 2010. In 2017 it was the first DUI court in Colorado to be accredited by the state’s Problem-Solving Court Accreditation Program, and it was reaccredited in December 2022. In 2023 the National Center for DWI Courts named it one of six academy courts, a network that serves as a model for other DUI courts, and the Judicial Branch said then that more than 145 participants had graduated.

A multidisciplinary team runs it: probation, the county’s Criminal Justice Services Division, a treatment provider, the District Attorney’s office, the Sheriff’s office, the Public Defender and the private defense bar. The district’s FY2026 overview lists DUI court among its accredited programs. Because the court serves people convicted of felony DUI, a misdemeanor DUI is not eligible for it; the Justice Center’s page lists misdemeanor and traffic cases among the county court’s jurisdiction.
